A letter from Stephen Greenleaf, Jr. to his relative Jonathan Greenleaf, written on February 8th, 1842, provides a detailed account of the early history and first inhabitants of Brattleboro, Vermont and gives some information on the population, geography and industry of the town. Additionally this letter mentions the first merchant in the town, Stephen Greenleaf, which prompts Jonathan Greenleaf to write the other letter in the collection, dated February 18th, 1842, which offers a more detailed account of the genealogy of the Greenleaf family who came to Brattleboro from England by way of Boston.
